No problem - please feel free. I can only read your blog via Google Translate, but I'm pleased to see you referencing the Dalai Lama - I have read a fair number of his books for ordinary people, and have used some of his suggested meditations at various points in my life.

Hello, I've started a page with Polish translations of interesting 3rd-wave-congruent internet articles. I'd like to translate a few off your blog. Would you be that kind to give me a permission to translate it? I'd link people to the original source. Cheers, Bartosz

Unfamiliarity breeds fear - and even though America in some ways is quite diverse, in other ways it s still very narrow & closed in. I am glad ACT has been of some help to you. It would seem that a larger goal for us all is learning to get used to difference when possible, rather than automatically fearing it.

hi randy
i saw ur posts on the ACT for public group and have been trying to keep up with ur replies to people. I recently joined the group. I liked reading this blog as i can relate to what happens when media advocates so much hate about a certain group of people. They fail to differenciate between terrorists and common man, simply put them into one category of fundamentalists. Fundamentalists is someone who folloows the fundamendals of a religion. i happen to be a very religious, practising muslim, so am i a fundamentalist? if so then does that make me a terrorist? A terrorist, is one who spreads terror based on his distorted beliefs (in the case of islam) based on his distorted misconceptions and beliefs of what islam preaches. This comes from not acquiring knowledge from the right scholars and trying to interpret the Quran and Hadiths on your own. Even if u pick up the bible, old testimants, and try to interpret the lines, u r perhaps taking them out of context hence falsily interpreting the verses. The mere translation version of any holy book is not enough to know what the religion preaches. bottomline every religion preaches peace, love, co-existance.
Also i would like to add that i am a victim of 9 years of racial attacks. I have suffered from social anxiety, social phobia and at one point agouraphobia. Living in america and fearing americans can get quite tough on a muslim woman who wears a headscarf. That fear and anxiety then generalized to fearing anyone and everyone who seemed agressive, bully, confrontational, assertive etc. until i started my people stared causing anxiety in me too...so basically fear of humans would be my diagnosis if i were diagnosed by a therapist. I have come a long way since last year. Last year i was in an intensive outpatient anxiety program for anxiety where they used ACT therapy on me.
Anyways without realzing media, eg, fox news, rush limbow, etc. do so much harm, as they create hate in the hearts of the general public towards people like us, who r just victims, who happen to be the a religion, which i can now say is perhaps the most hated religion in the world!.

You can find a printed version of the exercise on p. 193 of the first edition of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: An Experiential Approach to Behavior Change, which was printed in 2003. A second and updated edition of this book is due to come out soon, but I haven't seen it yet so I don't know whether it too will include the exercise.
